The Challenge
Neighborhood Alliance has served Lorain, Ohio since 1927. They operate emergency shelter, senior meal delivery, family support programs, and childcare — each in separate systems. A family might get shelter on Monday, meals on Wednesday, and childcare support on Friday, but nobody had visibility into what services that family was actually receiving. Cases fell through the cracks.
Our Solution
We implemented Salesforce with NPSP (Nonprofit Success Pack) to create a unified family record showing all services received. Built intake workflows that connect families across all programs. Created a “vulnerability score” that flags families needing additional support. Integrated with partner agencies for referral tracking.
The Results
Neighborhood Alliance now has complete visibility into every family they serve and what services they’re accessing. Intake time dropped 40% because information isn’t duplicated across systems. Most importantly: 12 families who would have fallen through the cracks were identified and connected with additional support. Staff spend less time on paperwork and more time on direct service.
We serve some of the most vulnerable families in our community. Now we actually know what each family is getting from us. We caught families who needed help in multiple areas but we didn’t know. That’s life-changing.

FAQ
Your Questions Answered
How do families avoid getting lost between programs?
Every family gets one record in Salesforce. When they receive any service — shelter, meals, childcare — it’s logged on their record. Our vulnerability assessment flags if a family has barriers that require additional support from another program.
How do you ensure data privacy with sensitive families?
Role-based access control ensures staff only see information relevant to their role. All data has audit trails. We encrypt sensitive information and comply with HIPAA-like standards even though we’re not required to — because these families deserve privacy.
How did you identify those 12 families who fell through the cracks?
Our vulnerability score combines factors like family size, services accessed, and staff notes. Families with high vulnerability but limited service usage get flagged for outreach. Staff follow up and find families who needed help but didn’t know to ask.
What do partner agencies see?
We securely share aggregate data showing service gaps and community needs. Partner agencies can refer families directly into our system. We collaborate instead of competing.
